U.S. 75 resurfacing project to begin in Osage County

Weather permitting, on Monday, Aug. 5, a resurfacing project will begin on an eight-mile stretch of the two-lane portion of U.S. 75 from the Marais des Cygnes River Bridge to the south Osage County line.

Project work includes milling away of 3.5 inches of existing pavement followed by the application of a hot mix asphalt 3.5-inch overlay on all mainline lanes and all new pavement markings. The resurfacing project will smooth the road and fill surface defects that can shorten pavement life. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.

Beginning Aug. 5, northbound and southbound U.S. 75 will be reduced to one lane at several mile increments at a time, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via flaggers (when needed), concrete barrier (bridges only), channelizers and signage. There will be a posted speed limit of 60 mph and a 12-foot lane width restriction, 24/7 round the clock, through the project work zone throughout the project duration.

Drivers should expect minor delays throughout the project duration. Updated traffic information for this resurfacing project can be viewed at: www.ksdot.org/topekametro/laneclose.asp.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

Bettis Asphalt, Topeka, is the primary contractor on this resurfacing project with a total contract cost of $3.289 million. The scheduled completion date for the resurfacing project is early November 2013, weather permitting.

This project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010. Find out more about this and other T-WORKS projects at:http://kdotapp.ksdot.org/TWorks/.
