High school to spend day learning about mental health

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – In place of a traditional school day, students and staff at Osage City High School will have the opportunity to learn about mental health and wellness April 7, 2021.

Kathy Camarena, high school counselor, and Kelly Hurla, school social worker with Drug Free Osage County, are collaborating together to host the event.

With the theme “Mental Health and Wellness: Let’s Taco ‘Bout It” session topics include an overview of mental health and its importance, anxiety and stress management, suicide prevention, human trafficking, ADHD, boundaries and healthy relationships, substance use, resiliency, adulting, and more.

Wellness related activities and topics offered throughout the day will highlight relaxation techniques including yoga and art, athletic performance and healthy eating. Sessions will primarily target students, however there will be options for staff to choose from also.

Hurla is employed through Drug Free Osage County and provides services in school districts in Osage County.
