OCPR Update: Spring is here, time to play and … swim?

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Parks and Recreation is getting ready for warmer weather – lifeguard training and recertification, WSI certification, swim camp, and swim team are coming soon. Note signup deadlines. Also, sign up for OCPR Tee-Ball for 3 to 5 years old. Parents are encouraged to participate as coaches. See details below:


Lifeguard Training – WSI Certification – Lifeguard Re-certification

All classes are held at the Osage City Aquatic Center. For more information contact, Lynn Tice, 785-249-2199.

Lifeguard Training

  • May 24-28, 1-5 p.m. (Pre-requisite skills test)
  • Cost is $150.
  • Instructor, Jordan Tice and Lynn Tice.
  • Students MUST bring their own breathing mask.
  • Students will be expected to complete 7 class hours online.
  • Blended learning course.
  • Includes First Aid and CPR.
  • Attendance required each day.
  • Must be 15 to take the class.

Signup deadline May 22.


WSI Certification

  • May 24-28, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Cost is $150.
  • Instructor, Lynn Tice.
  • Blended learning course.
  • Attendance required each day.
  • Students will be expected to complete 7 class hours online.
  • Must be 16 to take the class.

Signup deadline May 22.


Lifeguard Re-certification (with CPR)

  • May 22, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Osage City Swim Team

For swimmers age 6-18 (swimmer’s age is their age on or before June 19, 2021.)

  • Swim team pre-requisite: MUST be able to swim the length of the OCAC pool without assistance. MUST have completed Level 3 Red Cross swim lessons.
  • Swim team practice starts the week of June 7.
  • Meet season June 19-July 17.
  • Overbrook, Lebo, Lyndon, Burlington, and Osage City.

Swim team parent/swimmer meeting, 6 p.m. May 5, at OCAC; mandatory meeting for both parents and swimmers. Swim suit sizes and shirt/tank top sizes will be taken. Anyone not able to attend must meet with Letisha DeBaun prior to their first practice.


OCAC Swim Camp

  • June 1-4, 12-1 p.m.
  • $10 per swimmer.
  • Swimmers will focus on one stroke per day.
  • June 4, swim team open tryout day (open to any swimmer).
  • Cost, $60 per swimmer.
  • “Practice Swimmers” only, $30 per swimmer.

OCPR Tee-Ball

For children age 3, 4, 5.

  • Players need to turn 3 by May 1, 2021, to participate.
  • Cost, $20 per player.
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program.
  • Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A head coach is selected by OCPR and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players.
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline, once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 7.
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.
