Sheriff’s Reports: Property owner detains burglary suspects until deputies arrive

At 10:38 a.m. May 7, 2021, Osage County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a possible burglary in progress in the 7000 block of East 197th Street. The property owner had located and detained the suspects until deputies arrived. Upon arrival, deputies took two subjects into custody, Michael W. Smith III, 22, Williamsburg, Kan., and Melissa A. Jackson, 40, Quenemo, Kan. Smith was arrested on charges of suspicion of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, and possession of methamphetamine. Jackson was arrested on charges of suspicion of burglary, criminal trespassing, and theft. The suspects were booked into to the Osage County Jail.


The afternoon of May 10, 2021, at 1:45 p.m., an Osage County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop for a traffic infraction on state Highway 268 just east of the U.S. Highway 75 junction. During the stop, the Osage County Sheriff’s K-9 was deployed and narcotics were located in the vehicle. Bridget R.C. Griesacker, 31, of Osage City, was taken arrested and booked into the Osage County Jail on charges of suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and a Shawnee County warrant.


Early May 15, 2021, at 4:37 a.m., the Osage County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible theft in progress at a property south of Burlingame. Deputies and investigators responded to the area and began an investigation.

During the investigation, a vehicle suspected to be involved in the theft was located by Shawnee County Sheriff deputies near 42nd Street and Burlingame Road. Osage County investigators responded to that location. Raymond D. Roberts II, 26, of Topeka, Kan., was taken into custody and transported to the Osage County Jail on charges of suspicion of felony theft and criminal damage to property.
