SCRANTON, Kan. – Doris Snethen, 86, of Damon, Texas, formerly of Scranton, Kan., passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at her home. She was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Mountain Home, Ark., the daughter of William Gale and Clela (Taylor) Gale.
Doris grew up in Wichita, Kan. She later moved to LaJunta, Colo., where she adopted her two children before moving to Rock Creek, Kan., and eventually settling in the Scranton area. She lived there most of her adult life until moving to Damon 13 years ago to be close to her daughter.
Doris was a lifelong homemaker. She enjoyed her many television shows she would watch through the day, and was always active in the Scranton United Methodist Church, when she lived there. Most important to Doris was raising her family. She was always there for them, keeping clothes clean, food on the table, and helping with whatever other needs they may have. She loved them dearly.
On Aug. 3, 1952, Doris was united in marriage to Jack Snethen, at Wichita. They shared 56 years of marriage until Jack’s death in 2009.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula Stephens and her husband, Chuck, of Damon; six grandchildren, Traci Woods and her husband, Lonnie, Pearland, Texas, Kendra Haynes and her husband, Steve, Texas City, Texas, Jackie Taylor and her husband, Anthony, Sallisaw, Okla., Brittany Shepherd and her husband, Thomas, Topeka, Kan., Devin Snethen, Webster, Texas, Marina Hernandez and her husband, Anthony, Topeka; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Scranton Cemetery, Scranton.
