Bill F. Jones, 83, Melvern: July 7, 1930-Aug. 12, 2013

MELVERN-Bill F. Jones, 83, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at his home southeast of Melvern.

He was born on July 7, 1930, on the family farm northwest of Melvern, the son of Vern and Mary Kratzke Jones. Bill had lived most of his life around the Melvern community.

He graduated from Melvern Rural High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army with the Engineers in Korea. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired after 40 years as the fuel coordinator for the Eastern Division. He had also been a farmer and stockman.

He was a member of Melvern United Methodist Church and Melvern American Legion Post 317.

On Aug. 10, 1951, Bill was married to Mary K. Green, in Garnett.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald Jones and Arlon Jones; and his sister, Helen Meneley.

Bill is survived by Mary, his wife of 62 years; his son, William “Butch” Jones (Sonya) of Melvern; his daughter, Kathryn Mickelson (Neil) of Lyndon; his brother, C. Dale Jones (LaVerne) of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Rett (Liz) Mickelson, Dmitri, Feliks, Milo of Garland, Texas, Dusty (April) Mickelson, Henry of Oklahoma City, Okla., Chris (Erica) Mickelson; Scott (Jessica) Jones, Moundridge, Kan., Blake Jones and Danyl Chapman of Waverly, Kan., Deidra Jones of Topeka, and Matt Jones of Melvern.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial with U.S. Army military honors will be in Melvern Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Melvern United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Melvern Community Center or Melvern United Methodist Church.
