Outdoors: Fishing reports for Melvern Lake, Osage County Fishing Lake

The following fishing and lake reports for Osage County lakes were provided by Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

MELVERN RESERVOIR – Last Updated: 8/8/2013

Species Rating Size Baits, Method, & Location
Crappie Fair 0.33-1.5 lbs. On jigs and minnows around brush piles in 10-15 feet of water.
Walleye Fair 1-4 lbs. Drifting the flats using jig and nightcrawler.
Channel catfish Fair 1-6 lbs. Stink bait, shad and nightcrawlers. Stink bait working best over baited areas.
Boat ramp conditions All ramps in Corps parks and state park have sufficient depth for launching.
General Comments
Lake level was 2.46 feet below normal, release was 20 cfs, and temperature was 79 F, August 8. Melvern Reservoir has Zebra Mussels: Remember to clean, drain, and dry your boat and fishing equipment when leaving the lake to keep from spreading them to other lakes.

 

OSAGE STATE FISHING LAKE – Last Updated: 8/8/2013

Species Rating Size Baits, Method, & Location
Channel catfish Fair 1-5 lbs. Using stink bait, shad, nightcrawlers, minnows and sunfish.
Bluegill Fair Up to 0.33 lb. Using small spinners, jigs, and worms.
