BURLINGAME, Kan. – Frances Jean Granger, 97, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at Brookside Retirement, Overbrook, Kan. She was born May 15, 1924, in Saffordville, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Jennie (Jones) Crook.
Jean, as she was known by all, grew up in the Saffordville and Toledo communities in Lyon and Chase counties. She had lived in Burlingame, Kan., for many years.
Jean graduated in 1942 from Toledo Township High School. She was a homemaker and had worked as an Avon Lady for more than 20 years. Jean was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Carbondale, Kan.
On Oct. 15, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to Alvin “Bob” Granger, in Bentonville, Arkansas. To this union three children were born, Bill, Jan and Barb.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, on June 25, 1999; parents, Charles and Jennie; two brothers, William and Herbert Crook; and sister, Elizabeth Crook.
Jean is survived by her three children, Bill (Sarah) Granger, of Topeka, Kan., Jan (Keith) Scheid, Vassar, Kan., and Barb (Greg) Bryson, Scranton, Kan.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Scheid, Gerri (Trinity Fowler) Scheid, Erin Gibson, John (Sara Stites) Granger and Rosalie Granger; and seven great-grandchildren, Brelain and Aidan Finan, Carter, Chloe and Emmy Gibson, and Ira and Ezra Granger.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Burlingame Federated Church. Burial will follow in Burlingame Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon.
