WAKARUSA, Kan. – Robert W. Henderson, of Wakarusa, Kan., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at the Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka, Kan. He was born April 22, 1935, in Meriden, Kan., the son of Daniel W. Henderson and Genevieve A, (Russum) Henderson.
He graduated from the Auburn High School, Auburn, Kan., with the class of 1953.
On June 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Koci, in Auburn. They shared over 67 years of marriage.
He served our country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
Robert worked for Whelan’s Lumber, Topeka, as a truck driver for many years. He later worked as a carpenter for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pomona, Kan., retiring in 2001.
He enjoyed spending time with family and hunting elk and deer. He also enjoyed raising cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jim Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; three sons, Kevin Henderson and wife, Lori, Valley Falls, Kan., Scott Henderson and wife, Maria, Wakarusa, and Robert Henderson Jr. and wife, Ellen, Farmington, N.M.; a brother, Daniel Henderson Jr. and wife, Marcia, Lyndon, Kan.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
To celebrate Roberts’ life, the family will receive friends 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Auburn Civic Center, 1020 N. Washington St., Auburn.
