James David Shaw, 76, Ottawa: Jan. 6, 1945 – Jan. 2, 2022

OTTAWA, Kan. – James David Shaw, 76, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, at Advent Health Shawnee Mission, Shawnee, Kan. He was born on Jan. 6, 1945, in Pomona, Kan., the son of Porter and Hazel (Cox) Shaw.

Jim had grown up in Pomona, had lived in Ottawa and Vassar, Kan., before moving back to Ottawa in 2021.

Jim graduated from Pomona High School in 1963. He then served in the Kansas Army National Guard and was on active duty in 1968 and 1969. Jim worked at Parmalee’s, Ottawa, and Sunflower Ammunition Depot, DeSoto, Kan., before starting work for the city of Ottawa. He worked with the sewer department, became a building inspector, and then became the director of planning and zoning until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Elks, and the Michigan Valley Methodist Church, where he served on several boards and committees.

On June 26, 1966, Jim was united in marriage to Vickie Servaes, in Pomona. To this union two daughters were born, Carrie and Jennifer.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Hazel; two brothers, Charles and Larry Shaw; and sister, Pat Livingston.

Jim is survived by his wife, Vickie, of over 55 years; two daughters, Carrie (Jimmy) DeVore and Jennifer Madden, all of Ottawa; and four grandchildren, Sydney, Maddy, Jaydon and Waylon.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon, Kan. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until service time at the funeral chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Woodlawn Cemetery, at Pomona.
