SCRANTON, Kan. – The Osage County Sheriff’s Office has reported a Topeka man was arrested in connection with a shooting in Scranton that sent one man to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
A sheriff’s office press release said a report of a disturbance with shots fired came in to the sheriff’s office communication center around 4:13 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022. A short time later, a male subject arrived at a Topeka hospital with a gunshot wound. The sheriff’s office reported a suspect was identified during the investigation and arrested – Charles C. Meade, 45, of Topeka, Kan., was transported to the Osage County Jail on suspicion of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The sheriff’s office report did not identify the victim or his condition.
An independent report on Facebook group Topeka and Shawnee County News & Police Scanner, on which members report local emergency communication calls, said around 4:49 p.m. Sunday, Stormont Vail security contacted police about a gunshot victim in the lobby of the hospital. The police call indicated the victim said he was from Scranton, Kan., where the shooting occurred. The suspect vehicle was said to be a white Dodge pickup truck occupied by two white males armed with AR-15 style weapons.
The call indicated the victim arrived to the hospital in a green Dodge Neon driven by a white female, and the victim was admitted to the hospital with life threatening injury. The police call also indicated a white Dodge truck was towed from a residence in Scranton.
