Sheriff warns of recent mail thefts; asks victims to report crimes

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone in Osage County who has been a recent victim of theft of mail from their mailbox and did not file a report, to please do so. If your mail was taken while awaiting pick up, or if mail was taken between April 1, 2013, and Aug. 20, 2013, you are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 785-828-3121.

Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn reports that ongoing investigation has cleared several recent mail theft cases. Dunn is also reminding residents that placing mail in their mailboxes with the flag up alerts criminals that there may be cash or checks. She suggests dropping mail with checks in a secured U.S. post office.

Anyone who is a recent victim of mail theft and filed a report, and would like to speak with an investigator, is asked to call 785-828-3121.
