Gary Dale Hawkins, 66, Topeka: July 31, 1955 – July 3, 2022

TOPEKA, Kan. – Gary Dale Hawkins, 66, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at his home in Topeka, Kan. He was born on July 31, 1955, in Newton, Kan., the son of John and Betty (Gwin) Hawkins.

Gary had lived most of his life in the Topeka community, and graduated from Topeka High School in 1973.

Gary worked as a landscaper in Topeka for more than 10 years, and then worked for Delta Designs as a painter for 15 years. After he retired, he custom made and sold knives and swords. He had been a Boy Scout, played in the band, and wrestled in high school, loved fishing and travel, built and drove race cars, and attended Our Savior Lutheran Church.

On Oct. 9, 1999, Gary was united in marriage to Betsy Eissler, in Topeka.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty; and by a sister, Darlene.

Gary is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betsy; and his sister, Janice Docman, Merriam, Kan.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2021 SW 29th St., Topeka, with luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be in the Vassar Cemetery at a later date.
