Marjorie Ann (Saxbury) Black, 91, Topeka: May 25, 1931 – July 23, 2022

TOPEKA, Kan. – Marjorie Ann (Saxbury) Black, 91, of Topeka, Kan., died Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was born May 25, 1931, in Topeka, the daughter of Glenn Stuart and Mary Elizabeth (Gregg) Saxbury.

She graduated from Highland Park High School with the class of 1949.

On March 6, 1959, Marjorie was united in marriage to Thomas A. “Tom” Black, in Topeka. They shared 49 years of loving marriage before Tom’s passing in 2008.

In 1959, Marjorie moved to Burlingame, Kan., and worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for 19 years. She was a secretary at Lincoln Middle School until 1993, when she retired. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Topeka, and a former member of The Federated Church of Burlingame, where she played the organ for 34 years. She was also a part of the PEO Chapter CS and the Saturday Afternoon Club.

Marjorie loved to read. She also enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and organ. She loved doing crossword puzzles in her spare time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Mary Saxbury; her husband, Thomas Black; a brother, Richard Saxbury; a sister, Dorothy Calys; and a sister-in-law, Marg Singer.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Peter and her husband, Jeff, of Topeka; grandson, Kyle Peter, Wichita, Kan.; granddaughter, Kayla Peter, Topeka; sister-in-law, Esther Saxbury, of Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Emanuel Calys and Bob Singer, both of Topeka; nephew, Dennis Saxbury, of Ohio; and three nieces, Debbie O’Hara, Janine Saxbury, and Tangi Saxbury, of Ohio.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday July 29, at the Federated Church of Burlingame, Burlingame. To celebrate Marjorie’s life, visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 S. Topeka Ave., Burlingame, KS 66413.
