Tanner James Banks, 32, Osage City: Dec. 21, 1989 – Sept. 23, 2022

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Tanner James Banks, 32, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kan. Tanner was born Dec. 21, 1989, in Emporia, Kan., the son of James Richard Banks Jr. and Shirley (Tabares) Banks.

He attended school in Osage City, Kan. After high school, he served four years in the Army National Guard and was stationed in Djibouti, Africa, for one year.

Tanner lived most of his life in Osage City except during his active duty with the Army National Guard and time on the road for work. He worked as a tower maintenance technician before becoming a crane operator later in life.

Tanner loved motorcycles and became a proud member of the Boozefighters Club Chapter 49, in Osage County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coaching baseball for kids. Tanner was also a member of the Boy Scouts for several years.

Tanner will be forever remembered by his mother, Shirley Banks (Jeff Smelser),Topeka, Kan.; daughter, Reeve Banks, Salina, Kan.; son, Tucker Banks, Osage City; paternal grandfather, James Banks Sr., Topeka; his fiancée and son, Tiffanie and Taylor Roberts, Osage City; and two sisters, Tamsy (Rocky) Engel, Herington, Kan., and Taylor Smelser, Gardner, Kan.

He was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Nacho and Shirley Tabares; and paternal grandmother, Delores Banks.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving friends an hour before service.
