John Paul Masters, 59, Burlingame: Jan. 11, 1963 – Sept. 29, 2022

BURLINGAME, Kan. – John Paul Masters, 59, of Burlingame, Kan., passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health Systems St. Francis Campus, Topeka, Kan. He was born Jan. 11, 1963, in Topeka, the son of Daniel Thomas and Mary Frances (Manning) Masters.

He attended schools in the Seaman district and attended the Job Corps.

John was a heavy equipment operator for many years with Wolf Construction, and volunteered his time at Harvesters and the Topeka Rescue Mission, and traveled to Haiti for missionary work and hurricane cleanup.

John loved watching wrestling and UFC matches, and riding his motorcycle. John could be found fishing at local lakes or cheering on Burlingame sports teams. He loved attending sporting events for his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. John was always willing to lend a helping hand, and Haiti held a special place in his heart from his missionary work.

Survivors include his stepfather, Leslie Hood, Topeka; two brothers, Daniel (Nancy) Masters Jr., Topeka, and Arthur (Dixie) Hood, Scranton, Kan.; three sisters, Nancy (William) McGoyne, Topeka, Deborah (Larry) Cannon, Fountain, Colo., and Virginia (Walter) Degan, Topeka; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; and his dog, Shadow.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Patricia Blanchett and Mary Ann Thompson; his life partner, Teresa Ozenbaugh-Johnson; and nephew, Richard Anthony Blanchett.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Federated Church of Burlingame, 322 S. Topeka Ave., Burlingame. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Burlingame Cemetery.
