Osage City has new highway: K-31 opens after monthslong closure

Kansas Department of Transportation announced yesterday through social media that state Highway 31, between Osage City and U.S. Highway 75, has been reopened, as of Nov. 2, 2022.

KDOT reports work will continue along the sides of the highway, with the project expected to be completed in January. Drivers are asked to use caution in the construction zone.

That section of K-31 had been closed since July 25, as part of the highway’s realignment project. KDOT’s only official marked detour for the project was on U.S. Highway 56, and routed drivers more than 15 miles out of their way through Scranton and Burlingame to reach Osage City. Several local gravel roads were heavily used as detour routes during the closure.
