Myrtle Frances McCullah, 93, Carbondale: May 4, 1929 – Dec. 31, 2022

CARBONDALE, Kan. – Myrtle Frances McCullah, 93, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at her home in Holton, Kan. She was born May 4, 1929, in Maryville, Mo., the daughter of James and Marjorie (Bailey) Hamilton.

Myrtle had lived in Kansas and Missouri, and had been in Carbondale, Kan., for many years. She had moved to Holton in the last few months.

Myrtle had worked as a school cook and then as an aide in a Topeka nursing home. She was a certified medical assistant at Brookside Nursing Home, Overbrook, Kan., for several years. She was a member of Grace Chapel, Carbondale, and had been a member of the Carbondale VFW.

Myrtle was married to Wallace Billbe in 1948, he preceded her in death on March 31, 1968. She married John McCullah in 1969, he preceded her in death on April 2, 1989.

Myrtle was also preceded in death by her parents, James and Marjorie; four of her sons, David Billbe, Lowell Billbe, Michael Billbe, and Arnold Billbe; and a sister, Elizabeth Blacketer.

Myrtle is survived by her son, Stephen Billbe, Auburn, Kan.; daughter, Joy Ross, Holton; two sisters, Jeanne Milward, King Lake, Neb., and Linda Renne, Valley, Neb.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Grace Chapel, 419 S. Third St., Carbondale. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time. Inurnment will be in the Carbondale Cemetery at a later date.
