Watch for felling snow

Tree falls under weight of snow on Lyndon Building Materials.

Heavy snow that blanketed Osage County Monday and Tuesday took its toll on area trees, breaking branches and toppling some such as this one at Lyndon Building Materials, 118 W. Sixth St. Employees at the business reported they heard a noise outside about 8:30 Tuesday morning, and at first thought it was a snow plow going down the street. Further inspection revealed that a large elm tree had fallen under the weight of the snow onto the west side of the building. The side of the building and its roof were extensively damaged and the ceiling was knocked down on the inside, an employee said. A portion of the sidewalk was also ripped up by the tree’s roots.

Revised March 9, 2013 @ 22:40 to correct type of tree.
