Dennis Richard Craig, 84, Topeka: June 28, 1938 – March 10, 2023

TOPEKA, Kan. – Dennis Richard Craig, 84, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Topeka, Kan. He was born June 28, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Warren and Mae (Taddiken) Craig.

Dennis grew up in Iowa and lived in Topeka, Kan., for many years.

Dennis served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962 as an Airman First Class, Medical Specialist, with the 815th Medical Group, at Forbes Field, Topeka. He graduated from Washburn University in 1968 with a business degree. He found his calling in the copy machine business while he worked for Wolfe’s Camera Shop during college. Dennis went on to co-found Century Business Systems, a photocopy and business machines company serving Manhattan, Kan., and the surrounding areas; where he retired as president at the age of 70. He was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church, Topeka. Dennis was a member of AA for more than 30 years.

Dennis was married to Juanita Bacon on Sept. 11, 1960, in Topeka; they later divorced. He married Janice (Green) Savaiano on Oct. 11, 1991, in Topeka.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Janice, of 31 years; sister, Sharon Kruse; two stepsons, Scott Savaiano and Ryan Savaiano; three stepdaughters, Jaye (Rick) Cole, Becky (Jeff) Nelson and Melissa (David) Bach; eight grandchildren, Kelsey (Dustin) Morris, Josh (Sunny) Smart, Matt (Erica) Cole, Cera (Dustin) Michalski, Mara Smart, Dayton Nelson, Ben Nelson and Harper Savaiano; seven great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews, Don Monroe, David (Charity) Wheeler, Denise (Steve Morrison) Monroe, Donna (Curt) Ites and Dee (Brett) Carr; 14 great-nieces and nephews; 18 great-great nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great nephew.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Lowman United Methodist Church, 15th and Drury Lane, Topeka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be in the Lyndon Cemetery at a later date.
