Rettie Rose Doan, 76, Lyndon: Feb. 1, 1947 – March 17, 2023

LYNDON, Kan. – Rettie Rose Doan, 76, of Lyndon, Kan., passed away peacefully March 17, 2023, with family by her side. She was born Feb. 1, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan., to Fred and Rettie (Smith) DeVosha.

Rettie met the love of her life, Richard, in 1964; they were united in marriage May 10, 1965. Shortly after, they settled down and had their first child, Rettie Doan (Green), a year later they welcomed their second child, Richard (Bugsy) Doan Jr. They moved to Indiana, where they welcomed their third and fourth children, Edith Doan and Candy Doan. They moved back to Eastern Kansas, where she was a homemaker. In 1991, they adopted their grandson, David Doan. They adopted another grandchild in 2009, their granddaughter, Angela Zook (Short).

Rettie was a spicy little lady who loved sharing laughs and spending time with family. She also enjoyed gardening and fashion.

Rettie is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Richard Doan Sr., of the home; brothers, George DeVosha (Sue), and Richard DeVosha, all of Kansas City, Kan.; children, Rettie Green (Rick), Belleville, Kan., Richard Doan Jr., Emporia, Kan., Edith Doan (Perry), Lyndon, and Candy Doan, Ottawa, Kan.; grandchildren, Mickey Bittner, Toby Bittner, Billy Gilliland, Brittney Doan (Zack), Ashley Green, Mandy Green, Timothy Green, Natasha Smith (David), Joanna Doan, Billy Doan, Phillip Short (Jessica), Angela Zook (George), Levi Short, Kayla Jameson (Bret), and David Doan; and 26 great-grandchildren that she adored.

Rettie is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rettie (Smith) DeVosha; brothers, Gerald DeVosha and James DeVosha; and sister, Penny Culey.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Burial will follow at Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m., at the funeral chapel.
