BHS Lady Cats stack tandem wins at Lawrence

Burlingame High School Lady Cats volleyball team faced two opponents at Lawrence Tuesday, but came home with two more wins to add to their successes at Waverly.

The Lady Cats came out on top against Lebo, going three sets and scoring 28-26, 21-25, and 27-25.

“We didn’t come out with the intensity and drive I had hoped for after our big wins last week against Waverly. We came out too relaxed and lacked intensity,” said Lady Cats Coach Chelsi Gardner. “I was glad to see us be able to pull this win out, but we will probably play Lebo three more times this season, so it isn’t over by any stretch.”

The Lady Cats downed Bishop Seabury in two sets, going 25-11 and 25-13.

“Our passing wasn’t quite where I like to see it, but it improved as the night went on, which I was happy about,” Gardner said.

She noted strong defense by Bre Smith, who played for the first time this season at Lawrence, joining the team as a defensive specialist.

“I look for good things to come out of her this year,” the coach said.

She also pointed out Taylor Carson, who “had great defensive effort as well,” and noted Ashton Dorr and Haley Lewis, who showed good offensive presence for the team.

“We are continuing to improve and work on defense,” Gardner said. “I am happy with the girls’ effort!”
