Evelyn Lucille Vorovka, 100, Overbrook: June 6, 1923 – Oct. 4, 2023

OVERBROOK, Kan. – Evelyn Lucille Vorovka, 100, of Overbrook, Kan., formerly of Lincoln, Neb., passed away Oct. 4, 2023, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. Evelyn was born June 6, 1923, in Crawford, Neb., the daughter of Richard Lange and Mildred (McMasters) Lange.

She grew up in western Nebraska, graduating from Hemingford High School, Hemingford, Neb., with the class of 1943. Later in life Evelyn would go on and attend Chadron State College for three years, taking several art classes and a few general education classes.

She was a lifelong homemaker and loved caring for her family. Evelyn took great care and pride in her cooking. Her family was always excited to sit down together and enjoy her meals. She also spent many years of her life working at home as an artist. She entered several art shows over her life and was always very proud of the numerous ribbons she received for her work. She sold many pieces of her work over time and was very skilled at her craft. One of her favorite aspects of art was her years volunteering as an art instructor for children and older adults.

On June 29, 1945, Evelyn was united in marriage to George Vorovka, in Hemingford. They left the next day for Pensacola, Fla., where George was a naval aviator flight instructor during World War II. They farmed west of Hemingford after the war. They shared more than 71 wonderful years together until George passed away in 2017.

Evelyn is survived her son, David Vorovka and his good friend, Randy Stejskal, Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Cheri Thompson and her husband, Mike, Lawrence, Kan.; and two grandsons, Tony Thompson and his wife, Michelle, Kansas City, Mo., and Tim Thompson and his wife, Rachel, Lenexa, Kan.

Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at Brookside Community Center, Overbrook.
