The Overbrook Police Department will be handing out glow sticks at the “Fall in Love with Overbrook” Fall Festival on Oct. 14, 2023. Also, the Overbrook Historical Society will be selling T-shirts, mugs and cookbooks at the festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Overbrook fairgrounds. The Overbrook Farmers Market hosts the Fall in Love with Overbrook fall festival, with a full schedule of crafters, bakers, artists, food trucks, games, pumpkin patch, decorated hay bales, live music, and an aerial performance. Visitors can enjoy fall festivities 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
This month, the Overbrook Police Department will once again sell pink ribbon hats to raise money for breast cancer research. Hats are $10 and all funds go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The department reminds everyone that trick or treaters will be out on Halloween night. Trick or treaters should remember to wear reflective clothing, stay within lighted areas, carry a flashlight and stay in a group. Adults are recommended to travel with children.
At Overbrook Parks and Rec, soccer is underway. Overbrook has six teams participating this year, and will be hosting games. Oct. 7 and a tournament Oct. 28. The city will be hiring a new parks and recreation director in October.
The Overbrook Historical Society will host the premiere screening of “Overbrook Remembers JFK: 60 Years After the Assassination.” The film, to be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Overbrook Library community room, tells the story of that day through interviews with local residents who will never forget where they were on Nov. 22, 1963.
Overbrook Pride is continuing its “Leave a Legacy, Buy a Brick” fundraiser for additional improvements at the city park. The Overbrook Growth Committee and the East Central Kansas Area on Aging are offering a nutrition program dedicated to meeting nutritional needs to citizens 60 years and older in Overbrook. Currently hot meals are provided Tuesdays and Thursdays. The meals are delivered to the Overbrook Housing Authority Community Center at 200 Oak St., where participants pick up their meal. Donations of $3.50 per meal are encouraged, however, no one will be denied if unable to donate. Halloween Trunk or Treat will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Overbrook City Lake. All are welcome to pass out candy and decorate trunks in the parking lot by the Veterans Memorial. All vehicles are asked to be in place by 4:45 p.m. for the safety of those who will be participating. No registration is required.
