Overbrook man dies from injuries after two-car accident at Four Corners

FOUR CORNERS, Kan. – An Overbrook man died last week two days after being involved in a two-car accident at Four Corners, in Osage County, Kan.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that about 2:08 p.m. Jan. 26, 2024, Charles Russell Vanpelt, 86, Overbrook, was driving a 2022 Ford Ranger southbound on Topeka Avenue at U.S. Highway 56, when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. Vanpelt’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a westbound 2001 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Abigail Kaylyn Dinger, 18, Scranton.

KHP reported Vanpelt was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, where he died of his injuries Jan. 29. Dinger was reported to be possibly injured and complaining of pain, but was not transported to the hospital.

The report said Dinger was wearing safety restraint during the accident, while Vanpelt’s seatbelt usage was listed as unknown.
