Samuel Austin Stitt, 85, Lyndon: Oct. 7, 1938 – March 3, 2024

LYNDON, Kan. – Samuel “Sam” Austin Stitt, 85, of Lyndon, Kan., passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Anthology of Olathe, Olathe, Kan. He was born Oct. 7, 1938, the son of Cora (Leonard) Stitt and Ludell Stitt.

Sam graduated from Lyndon High School in 1957. He was an athlete in high school, where he played baseball and ran track. His love for sports continued into adulthood, when he pitched fast-pitch softball.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his classic cars.

Sam was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad, the KATY Railroad, and the Union Pacific Railroad, from which he retired.

He married Wilma “Billie” Bright, March 6, 1965.

He is survived by their son, Rod Stitt (Jennifer); grandchildren, Molly Stitt and Dylan Stitt, whom he loved with all his heart.; brother, Willis Stitt (Neusa); and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora Stitt and Ludell Stitt; sister, Ludella Mae “Susie” McCann; and wife, Wilma “Billie” Stitt.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka, Kan.
