Roy Wayne McIver, 65, Carbondale: Feb. 9, 1959 – April 7, 2024

CARBONDALE, Kan. – Roy W. McIver, 65, of Carbondale, Kan., passed away April 7, 2024, at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1959, at Hutchinson, Kan., to Richard and Lona McIver, who both preceded him in death in 2011 and 2020, respectively.

Roy graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1977. During his time there, he was active in JROTC and enjoyed playing the drums; both of which he pursued in adulthood. He played drums for various musical groups. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1977 to 1982 and the Air National Guard from 1986 to 2003, participating in the Persian Gulf Wars and Desert Storm, before retiring as master sergeant. He also worked as a private contractor for the United States Postal Service for 25 years.

Roy married his wife, Toni, on May 25, 1985. Toni precedes Roy in death, passing away in 2018. Roy and Toni had one child, who passed away at birth Feb. 19, 1995. The love that they weren’t able to share with their child was spread amongst 13 nieces and nephews, 20 great-nieces and great-nephews, and a great-great nephew.

He also had a love for animals, but none more than Midnight, the cat he and Toni shared, who passed away in 2021, and his dog, Bear, who passed away in 2020. During the winter months, Roy followed in his parents’ footsteps, vacationing in Port Aransas, Texas, always with his younger sister, Tina, as his traveling companion.

He is survived by his brothers, Bill McIver, Topeka, Kan.; Nolan McIver, Council Grove, Kan. and a sister, Tina McIver (Morrison), Topeka.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday April 19, at Ridgeway Cemetery, 3941 E. 125th Road, Carbondale. Visitation and viewing will be at the cemetery at 1 p.m., prior to the service Friday.
