Richard Duane Basinger Sr., 92, Lyndon: Sept. 14, 1931 – April 14, 2024

LYNDON, Kan. – Richard Duane Basinger Sr., 92, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Plaza West Healthcare, Topeka, Kan. He was born Sept. 14, 1931, in Norwich, Kan., the son of Edgar and Velma (Buttel) Basinger.

Richard graduated from Meade High School, Meade, Kan., in 1949. As he traveled for his job, he lived in many locations through the years, and had lived near Lyndon, Kan., for the last 20 years.

Richard worked as a salesman for Allstate Insurance, and also for Sears for more than 35 years. He was a 49-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and attended in Lawrence and Lyndon. Through the years he had been Santa Claus to those who needed him.

On Dec. 24, 1949, Richard was united in marriage to Lucretia “Corky” Hinsdale, in Meade. To this union, three children were born.

Richard was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents, Edgar and Velma; and all of his siblings.

Richard is survived by his wife, Corky, of more than 74 years; three children, Richard Basinger Jr., of Lyndon, Lucretia Sue Farland, Fairfield, Calif., and James Basinger, Joplin, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday. Burial will be in the Vassar Cemetery, Vassar, Kan.
