Norma Ruth Droege, 91, Topeka: Oct. 6, 1932 – April 17, 2024

TOPEKA, Kan. – Norma Ruth Droege, 91, of Topeka, Kan., passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Legend at Capital Ridge, Topeka. She was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Roy and Mae (Madera) Calcote.

She graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1949.

Norma married John W. “Jack” Droege, Oct. 3, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Scranton, Kan., until John’s passing on Sept. 24, 2019.

Norma worked various jobs over her lifetime, including clerical work, owning a Radio Shack, and a toll booth operator for the Kansas Turnpike. Her life was filled with her home and family. She was a great cook, and her children and grandchildren all had their own special favorite meals. Her cookie jar was never empty. Norma was always working a jigsaw puzzle, and would love to challenge anyone to a game of Scrabble, which she usually won.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John.

Surviving family includes her four children, Dave (Susie) Murray, Plano, Texas, Terry (Norman) Pack, Yulee, Fla., Don (Dawn) Hand, Kansas City, Mo., and Larry Hand, Topeka; two stepsons, Brian (Christi) Droege, Burlingame, Kan., and Chad (Melissa) Droege, Burlingame; and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and inurnment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame.
