AMERICUS – Lee “Sonny” Wright, 74, passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Newman Regional Hospital, Emporia, Kan. He was born on Sept. 28, 1938, in Olivet, Kan., the son of Boneta Tyson Wright and Jess Fuller.
Sonny grew up in Olivet and had lived in Lyndon, Melvern, Emporia and Americus.
He was a self-employed electrician, had worked for the Coleman Co. for several years, and had operated a TV shop in Lyndon. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the VFW Post 1980 and the American Legion Post 5, both in Emporia.
Sonny was married to Tressia Criqui; they later divorced. He was married to Alejandra M. Alvarez. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2007.
Sonny is survived by three sons, Steven Wright, of Morrowville, Israel Alvarez, Americus, and Jesse Wright of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Jocelyn Alvarez and Alesia Wright, both of Americus; a stepdaughter, Sherry White, Melvern; sister, Dyvonna Turner and husband, Jim, of Derby; his brother-in-law, Walter “Ozzy” Osborn; and six grandchildren, Samantha Wright, Christopher Wright, Alejandra Alvarez, Elizabeth Wright, Jonathan Wright and Afrelyn “Peaches” Cuevas.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Lyndon United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Alpine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
