Poultry exhibition draws increased participation at Overbrook Fair

A poultry show was held Aug. 10, 2013, at the Overbrook Osage County Fair, and was well attended by local 4-H poultry keepers.

In Osage County, the poultry project has seen an increase in participants in the last year and has been gaining in popularity at the county fairs. Melissa Seacat is the county project leader, and 4-H members and poultry exhibitors credit her for a great job of promoting the project in the county.

Poultry showmanship was added to the poultry shows this year in Osage County. Competitors are judged by a scorecard based on general knowledge of the project, body parts of the bird, appearance of exhibitor and bird, and ability to answer questions. Several 4-Hers in the county are planning to attend the Kansas Classic Fall Poultry Show, Hutchinson, Kan., in November. The show is sponsored by the Heart of America Bantam Club.
