BURLINGAME, Kan. – Council City Coffee Company has announced it will open for business Aug. 14, 2025. Located at 110 W. Santa Fe Ave., Burlingame, Kan., the new coffee house is situated in a newly renovated historic brick building. The business features espresso drinks, coffee, teas, frappes, energy drinks, old fashioned fountain sodas, and pastries.
“We wanted to preserve some of the town’s history by saving this circa-1903 brick building,” said Craig Hanna, Council City Coffee Company proprietor.
“We created the coffee house to be that ‘third place’ where people can come to socialize and enjoy drinks and treats, in a space that we hope sets a new standard for inviting people back to Burlingame,” said proprietor Laura Hanna.
Council City Coffee Company has partnered with Messenger Coffee, Kansas City, an artisan coffee roaster featuring certified farm direct coffee beans.
“Messenger has really helped us launch the business with consultation, training, and equipment selection,” Craig said. “We are very fortunate to have their insights into making great coffee and espresso to guide us through the process.”
The name of the new company, Council City, refers to the original name of Burlingame when it was established in 1855. A few years later the name was changed to Burlingame.
