MELVERN, Kan. – Ruth Ann Silver, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. She was born July 7, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of August and Ruth (Cook) Meier.
Ruth grew up in Kansas City, had lived in Colombia and Brazil as a missionary, and then lived in Florida before moving to Lyndon, Kan. After 11 years in Lyndon she moved to rural Melvern, Kan., where she has lived for the last 33 years.
Ruth worked for Marais des Cygnes Valley schools and Valley View Greenhouse, both at Melvern. She was a homemaker most of her life, raising five ornery kids!
On June 6, 1958, Ruth was united in marriage to Ralph “Jerry” Silver, in Kansas City. To this union five children were born, Mark, Joan, Beth, Becky and Amy.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, of 67 years, on Feb. 25, 2026; her parents, August and Ruth; and a granddaughter, Morgan Woodruff.
Ruth is survived by her five children, Mark (Sandy) Silver, Pulaski, Tenn., Joan (Jonathan) Starch, Melvern, Beth (Dan) Freerksen, Topeka, Kan., Becky White, Overbrook, and Amy Silver, Melvern; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be in Melvern Cemetery.
