Lebo attacks Lady Bearcats; BHS dinks Word of Life

bearcatsThe Burlingame High School Lady Bearcats won their match against World of Life, but suffered another defeat by Lebo during Tuesday’s volleyball games played at Lebo.

Lady Bearcats coach Chelsi Gardner said the team came out solid against Word of Life, downing them in two sets, 25-3 and 25-7.

The match against Lebo wasn’t as smooth.

“The first set against Lebo we started slow, and picked up quickly,” Gardner said. “We fell just short in the first set, because we started so slowly.”

That set ended in a 24-26 loss for the Bearcats; the next set, the Bearcats had warmed up, taking a win, 25-15.

“The second set, we came out hot and played really well,” the coach said. “Hayley (Lewis) was very effective in the second game which gave us the boost we needed. McKenzie McClenahan had a great night passing.”

In the deciding set, mistakes cooled down the Lady Bearcats, resulting in a score of 11-25.

“The third set, we lost our focus,” Gardner said. “We made too many silly and unnecessary mistakes and it had the snowball effect. We never regained momentum.”

The Lady Bearcats’ next matches will be in the Lyon County League tournament Saturday at White Auditorium in Emporia.
