Douglas Joel Mathey, 70, Osage City: May 8, 1943 – Nov. 22, 2013

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Douglas Joel Mathey was born on May 8, 1943, in Lyndon, Kan., the son of George and Geraldine Rose Mathey. He departed this life on Nov. 22, 2013, in Topeka, Kan., at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Doug grew up in Lyndon, graduating from Lyndon High School in 1961. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1966 with Helicopter Anti Submarine Squadron 11.

Doug had lived in Osage City for many years where he served on the Osage City Police Department. He then lived in Leavenworth for a time before moving back to Osage City in 2007. He had also worked as a sheet rocker.

On Sept. 21, 1967, Doug was united in marriage to Gloria Jean Wright in Lawrence, Kan. To this union a daughter was born.

Doug was preceded in death by his dad, George, in 1969, and by his mother, Geraldine, in 2006.

Doug is survived by his wife, Gloria, of the home; daughter, Renee Lincoln and husband, Justin, of Osage City; three brothers, Dale Mathey, Kansas City, Kan., Danny Mathey, Topeka, and Dean Mathey, Carbondale; two grandsons, J.T. Lincoln and Devon Lincoln, both of Osage City; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Osage City Baptist Temple. The family will receive friends one hour before service time at the church located at 24608 K-170, Osage City. Burial with Navy honors will be held at the Lyndon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Osage City Baptist Temple, and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
