Melvern man dies in New Year’s Eve accident

A Melvern man was killed New Year’s Eve after the vehicle he was driving slid into a tree south of Osage City. Three other occupants of the 1995 Dodge Ram were injured or possibly injured.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Eric A. Stinebaugh, 37, Melvern, was driving east on 269th Street near South Auburn Road, about five miles south of Osage City at 4:40 p.m., Dec. 31. The KHP report said the road was icy and the vehicle slid off of the roadway toward the south and struck a tree.

Passengers in the vehicle were Amber R. Tincher, 33, Osage City, listed with possible injury; Kelly D. Gordon, 33, Topeka, possible injury, transported to Stormont Vail; Grady Tincher, 2, possible injury; and Gunner Tincher, 5, not injured.

Stinebaugh and the adult passengers were not wearing safety restraints; the children were wearing seatbelts, KHP reported.
