NWS issues winter weather advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory with a hazardous weather outlook effective at 3 p.m. today until midnight for Osage, Jefferson, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Lyon, Franklin, Coffey, Anderson counties.

South of a line from Abilene and Manhattan to Holton, snow is expected to begin around 3 p.m. with peak intensity between 4 and 8 p.m., and come to an end by midnight.

Snow accumulations are expected to be 1 to 3 inches widespread with a few areas receiving as much as 4 inches.

North winds will gust 20 to 30 mph during and after the peak of snowfall intensity.

Drivers should expect difficult travel conditions due to slick roadways and visibility reduced at times to a quarter mile or less. Some blowing and drifting of the snow is also expected, even after the snow falls.
