Leroy Smith, 77, Perry: July 21, 1936 – Jan. 3, 2014

PERRY – Leroy Smith, 77, passed away at his home in Perry, Kan., on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.  He was born on July 21, 1936, in Melvern, Kan., the son of Stanton and Maggie Adolph Smith.

Leroy grew up in Melvern, and then moved to Lyndon in 1958. He lived in Lyndon until two years ago when he moved to Perry.

Leroy worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and then the Kansas Highway Department. He worked for Goodyear as a tire builder until his retirement. He then worked for the Osage County Highway Department for several years. He was an honorary member of Local 307 and the Osage City Chapter of Riders of Kawasaki.

On June 30, 1956, Leroy married Jeannine Osborn, in Melvern. Jeannine preceded Leroy in death on April 24, 1990.

Leroy is survived by his four daughters, Cindy (Steve) Taylor, of Iola, Darla Terry, Tulsa, Okla., Linda (Scott) Pearson, Perry, and Twila (Steve) Vellez, Wichita; a sister, Genevieve Tedrow, Eudora; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Leroy will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
