New Overbrook library to open doors Monday

010514-Overbrook-Library Friday, work crews install exterior panels on the newly constructed Overbrook Public Library, scheduled to open to patrons on Jan. 6.

The newly constructed Overbrook Public Library will open to the public for the first time on Monday, Jan. 6, after a huge crew of volunteers helped move books and materials during two Saturdays last month.

After the Dec. 28 moving day, library director Peggy Waldman and others worked last week to place books and other materials in their proper place on the shelves and cabinets to get ready for Monday’s opening.

Overbrook Mayor Don Schultz reported that crews were working Friday to install exterior panels on the library, one of the last projects that will complete the construction. The work should be completed late this week, weather permitting. Patrons are asked to be aware of workers, materials, and scaffolding as they enter and exit the library.

“What a wonderful way to start a New Year!” Schultz said about the library opening.

The community began planning the library construction project in 2010 after Claudie and Glen Norton left the library a trust of almost a million dollars, with three-fourths of the funds to be used to remodel or build a new library.
