High wind predicted for Thursday

Osage County is included in a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Topeka. Wind speeds will increase quickly late this morning and will diminish somewhat around sunset. Northwest winds are expected to be sustained at 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

Motorists are advised to keep a tight grip on the steering wheel and be prepared for frequent strong gusts. Residents are advised to secure trash cans, lawn furniture, and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects.

Osage County Emergency Management has advised against any open burning today.

The wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. this morning to 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Douglas County and the city of Lawrence are also included in the advisory.
