A truck and semi-trailer went off the road south of Burlingame Monday, ending up on its side in the ditch, and the driver transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Jason Edmunds, 34, Denver, Colo., was driving a 2013 Freightliner with a 53-foot trailer southbound on U.S. Highway 56 south of Burlingame at about 4:30 p.m. Monday, when the trailer’s back tires slid off of the roadway, causing the truck to leave the road and tip onto the passenger side in the ditch. The accident happened about 1/3 mile south of 205th Street.

Edmund was reported to have possible injuries and was transported by Osage County EMS to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka.

The truck, which belonged to Werner Enterprises, Inc., Omaha, Neb., had damage to its front and right side, and also collided with a utility pole.

As of Tuesday, the truck remained on its side in the ditch, while its cargo, which was destined to Dollar General Stores, was being off-loaded to allow the truck to be up righted.

The sheriff’s office is advising local motorists to be aware of the truck and activity on the highway until the vehicle can be removed within the next few days.
