Lucile Cummings, 98, Ottawa: Dec. 7, 1915 – March 11, 2014

OTTAWA – Lucile Cummings, 98, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Wellsville Retirement Community.  She was born on Dec. 7, 1915, in Melvern, Kan., the daughter of Terry and Verlie Boyd Rich.

Lucile had lived in Lyndon, Pomona and Ottawa.

Lucile received a Bachelor’s of Education from University of Kansas in 1938. She then taught junior high school English in Melvern, Lyndon and Ottawa for many years.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the AU Chapter P.E.O. in Ottawa, and had attended the Presbyterian church.

On Nov. 4, 1938, Lucile was married to Francis Cummings, in Lyndon.

Lucile was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on Dec. 25, 2008, and by her two sisters, Esther Nelson and Boydie Rich.

Lucile is survived by her four sons, Raymond Cummings and Nancy of Ft. Lupton, Colo., Burton Cummings and Sharon, Pomona, Roger Cummings, Olympia, Wash., and Rex Cummings and Brenda, Gardner; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Lucile was cremated, and the family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, at the Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon. Inurnment will follow at the Alpine Cemetery at Melvern Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyndon Carnegie Library and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
