Jeffrey Martin McFarlane, 57, Burlingame: April 25, 1956 – March 14, 2014

BURLINGAME – Jeffrey Martin McFarlane, 57, Burlingame, Kan., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014. He was born April 25, 1956, in Emporia, the son of Joseph W. and Bessie Meyers McFarlane.

He attended school in Burlingame, graduating from Burlingame High School in 1974. Jeff was a member of the 1972 state championship football team, played basketball at Independence Junior College, and later attended Emporia State University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

Jeff married his high school sweetheart Pamela Jo Rice on Nov. 7, 1976, in Burlingame. She survives of the home.

He worked as a welder for the Santa Fe Railroad and at Essex Wire. For the past 27 years Jeff worked as an agent for Farmers Insurance Group alongside his son Josey. Jeff also started farming in 1980 which he loved.

He was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church, F.O.E., Osage City, and was a former member of the Burlingame school board, Osage City Lions Club and Osage City Country Club. Jeff loved sports and coached many teams for friends and his children. He loved and adored his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father on September 15, 2010. Survivors include his wife, Pam McFarlane, Burlingame; two sons, Josey (Christina) McFarlane, Osage City; Jacob (Katie) McFarlane, Cherryvale; a daughter, Kelsie McFarlane (Brad) Kooser, Topeka; six grandchildren, McKenna, Madison, Morgan, Justice, Preslee McFarlane, Braxton Kooser and a grandson due in May; his mother, Bessie McFarlane, Burlingame; two sisters, Cindy (Kevin) Harris, Burlingame; Kathy Poe, Norwich; father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Marilyn Rice; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Rice and Patti Rice (Dennis) Beach; two nieces, three nephews, many cousins and friends. He will be dearly missed.

A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, at the Burlingame Federated Church, Burlingame. Burial will be in Wilmington Cemetery, south of Harveyville. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, at Carey Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m.
