James L. Buchholz, 81, Carbondale: January 8, 1933 – March 17, 2014

031914-james-buchholz-obituCARBONDALE – James “Jim” Leonard Buchholz, 81, passed away March 17, 2014, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. He was born January 8, 1933, to Clarence V. and Anna M. (Schultz) Buchholz in Minneapolis, Minn.

Jim was raised in Wadena, Minn., and graduated from Wadena High School in 1951. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1956 Jim went to work for the United States Postal Office in Topeka, and retired as postmaster of the Carbondale Post Office in 1988.

Jim married Mary Mellies on Nov. 2, 1956, in Topeka. They moved to Carbondale in 1959 where they continued to live.

In addition to Jim to serving as a Carbondale city councilman, Carbondale mayor and on the city’s zoning and planning committee, Jim and Mary volunteered with the Osage County Fire District No. 1 and the Prairie Land Foods program.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary, daughters, Deborah (Paul) Eamigh, Linda Buchholz and son Kenneth (Debra) Buchholz, all of Carbondale; a sister, Margaret Wittel, of Minnesota; and five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Grace Chapel, Carbondale.
Interment will follow the service at Carbondale Cemetery.
