NWS issues red flag warning for northeast Kansas

RED-FLAGThe National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a red flag warning in effect from 1 p.m. this afternoon to 7 p.m. this evening due to low relative humidity and gusty winds across east central and northeast Kansas.

A red flag warning means that weather conditions are expected to be conducive for extreme fire behavior throughout the afternoon today. Any fires that develop will grow and spread rapidly. These types of fires become very difficult if not impossible to control.

Southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected, along with relative humidity between 15 and 20 percent. Temperatures this afternoon will be in the mid 60s to around 70.

The affected area includes fire weather zone in Osage, Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Lyon, Franklin, Coffey And Anderson.
