Lane closure scheduled for Friday on U.S. 75 southbound from Topeka Boulevard

Motorists on U.S. Highway 75 are advised the southbound right lane from Topeka Boulevard in Shawnee County to the U.S. 56 junction in Osage County will be closed sometime on Friday, March 21. The southbound lane will be reduced to one lane throughout the duration of a resurfacing project.

Project work includes the milling of 1-inch of existing pavement for both southbound lanes followed by a new 2-inch asphalt overlay. The lane closure was to begin Thursday, but the contractor is still setting traffic control. The lane will not close fully until tomorrow, Friday, March 21.

Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones. There will be a posted speed limit of 60 mph and a 12-foot lane width restriction, 24/7 round the clock, through the project work zone.

In addition, northbound U.S. 75 from the U.S. 56 junction to Topeka Boulevard has been reduced to one open lane for replacement of all bridge approach pavement on seven bridges and a 1.5-inch asphalt overlay on both northbound lanes. There will also be intermittent ramp closures once the asphalt overlay work begins.

Drivers should expect delays throughout the project duration. Updated traffic information for this resurfacing project can be viewed at: www.ksdot.org/topekametro/laneclose.asp.

This project is now resuming work after winter shutdown for the 2013 construction season. The scheduled completion date for the resurfacing projects, KDOT Project No. 75-89 KA 2185-01 and 75-70 KA 2184-01, is mid-July 2014, weather permitting.
