Adelia Jane Barbee Huston, 99, Overbrook: March 3, 1915 – March 22, 2014

032514-adelia-barbee-hustonOVERBROOK – Adelia Jane Barbee Huston, 99, Overbrook, Kan., passed from this life on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Brookside Retirement Community. Adelia was born March 3, 1915, in Twin Mound, Kan., the daughter of Jacob and Mabel Montfoort.

She was employed at the Supply Depot during the 1940s. She had worked at the Neese Mercantile in Richland, Kan., for approximately 20 years. She moved to Topeka in 1960 and began working for Sears as cashier in the credit department until she retired. She was a member of the Quivira Heights Church of Christ. 

Adelia married Earl Raymond Barbee in 1932. He died February 3, 1992. They were members of the Good Sam’s Camping Club.

She married Howard Huston on Jan. 20, 1994. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Earl H. Barbee (Sue), Overbrook; daughter Ruth Ann Welchhans (Bill), of Auburn; grandchildren, Jon Welchhans (Laura), Longmont, Colo., Julienne Blake, Topeka, Tonya Pentola (Dave) Joplin, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Bryan Woodruff (Kayleigh), Webb City, Mo., Maya Blake and Hannah Blake, Topeka.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry Montfoort, John Montfoort, Clarence Montfoort, Charles Montfoort, and three sisters, Jennie Petefish, Mabel Deister and Carrie Bowen.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery just north of 89th Street and Ratner Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, in Overbrook.
