Overbrook meeting to provide overview of Farm Bill programs

The Osage County Conservation District will host a meeting to provide an overview of the Farm Bill at 7 p.m. April 9 at the Grace Community Church, Overbrook. Josh Roe, of the Kansas Department of Agriculture, will explain part of the Farm Bill that pertains to agriculture conservation, crop insurance and commodity programs.

Producers will need to make an irrevocable, five year, choice between Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC). Roe will present a few scenarios of what the payment might have been for each type of coverage for the last few years. Deadline to choose coverage has not been set but will possibly be June or July.

Livestock Indemnity Payments (LIP) and Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) signup will begin on or before April 15, 2014. Roe will present the details on types of information needed for application if they are available. Sign up for LIP and LFP will be through the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

Roe also will cover other aspects of the Farm Bill. Additional meetings will be scheduled as details on different programs become available.
