Leora Brewer, 75, Topeka: Sept. 19, 1938 – March 27, 2014

TOPEKA – Leora Kathryn Mahaffey Burns Brewer, 75, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Midland Hospice Care, in Topeka. She was born on Sept. 19, 1938, in Buffalo, Kan., the daughter of Francis and Cleora Louk Burns.

Leora had lived in Melvern and Topeka most of her life.

She had worked as the city clerk of Melvern and then as a clerk for the Topeka State Hospital. She graduated from Melvern High School in 1956, was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 1650 and the Women of the Moose No. 1091, both of Topeka, American Legion Auxiliary No. 317 on Melvern and the O.E.S. Sadana Chapter of Williamsburg.

On Sept. 4, 1954, Leora was married to Jack Brewer in Emporia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack on July 22, 1998, and by her grandson, Taylor Watson.

She is survived by her three children, Francis Brewer (Penny), Kathy Watson (Terry), and Kelle Brewer-Brown, all of Topeka; brother, W.L. Mahaffey of Bucyrus; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services were held at the Melvern Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or YFC and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
