Osage County News Obituary Policy

Osage County News will publish obituaries of people who have a connection with Osage County. Photographs, embedded videos and other special online presentations will be considered upon request. A comment section can be included depending upon the wishes of family or the funeral service.

Thurston Howell, 79, Coal Hill: Aug. 25, 1928 – Feb. 12, 2013

COAL HILL – Thurston Howell, 79, died the morning of Feb. 13, 2013, at the Veterans Home in Coal Hill, Osage County. He was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Carlton, the son of Craig and Leona (Jasper) Howell.

Thurston graduated from Coal Hill High School, class of 1957. He then went on to become a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He came home to marry his sweetheart, Lovey Smith, and they lived throughout the United States. His main enjoyment in life was traveling the world.

He is survived by his wife, Lovey; his son, Thurston Jr. and wife, Nicky Howell, of East Grant, Minn.; daughter, Judy Coslo and husband, Ralph, of Somers, Ala.; daughter, Cindy Harley and husband, Charles Jr., Wilson, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

A private family service is planned.
